African Tarot

The African Tarot brings Pamela Colman Smith's classic card meanings to life through the lens of South African indigenous culture. Created by Marina Romito, the artwork uses a bold, folk-inspired visual style that feels both grounded and joyful, drawing on symbols and motifs from traditions like the Shagaan people. The card backs feature a tortoise, a Shagaan symbol representing the patient arrival of justice.

What makes this deck special is how naturally it connects tarot's universal themes to the African experience. The images are full of warmth and energy, with an almost childlike directness that cuts through to emotional truths. It's a refreshing take on the Rider-Waite structure that feels genuinely personal rather than simply decorative.

This is a miniature-sized deck, great for smaller hands or for carrying with you. It comes with a 55-page booklet covering individual card meanings and card combinations.
