Book of Thoth - Etteilla Tarot

Book of Thoth - Etteilla Tarot

The Book of Thoth Etteilla Tarot is a reproduction of a 19th-century French deck tracing its lineage to Jean-Baptiste Alliette, who worked under the pseudonym Etteilla — his surname reversed. Alliette was the first person known to have brought tarot divination to a wide public audience, beginning in 1785, and is considered the first professional tarot reader of record.

This reproduction will particularly appeal to those drawn to tarot's historical roots. While some of the familiar images — the Chariot, Death, the Tower, Justice — do appear, many of the cards depart significantly from more familiar traditions. The Minor Arcana are pip cards without scenes, and each card carries both a French title and two keywords: one for the upright position, one for the reversed. All text is in French, as befitting the original.
