Tarocchi Visconti Brambilla

Tarocchi Visconti Brambilla

Gemaakt door Bonifacio Bembo
Uitgegeven door Il Meneghello editions

Possibly predating even the Visconti Modrone deck, the Tarocchi Visconti Brambilla is a landmark of early tarot history. The artwork belongs to the International Gothic style, which gives the figures a graceful, dreamlike quality. Named after Giovanni Brambilla, who acquired the cards in Venice in 1900, the deck has been held by the Brera Gallery in Milan since 1971. Believed to have been commissioned from Bonifacio Bembo by Francesco Sforza around 1463, only 48 of the original cards survive, with face cards set against gilded backgrounds and pip cards against silver. This Il Meneghello edition from 2021, limited to 1,200 copies, reproduces all 48 surviving cards faithfully.
