The Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery
Robert M. Place drew on the lush visual world of Pre-Raphaelite painter Edward Burne-Jones to create this deck, bridging the aesthetic sensibilities of the nineteenth century with the philosophical frameworks of the fifteenth. The Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery illustrates ancient Western teachings about three levels of the soul and seven soul centers, understood as a ladder of ascending consciousness. The imagery works on multiple levels simultaneously, from practical daily guidance to deep esoteric inquiry.
This second edition comes with gold-edged cards and a cloth-covered slipcase, reflecting the care Place has put into both the scholarship and the physical presentation. The companion volume, The Tarot, Magic, Alchemy, Hermeticism, and Neoplatonism, expands far beyond this deck alone, covering the Tarot of Marseilles and the Waite-Smith deck as well, with over 680 pages and 300 illustrations. For serious students of the Western esoteric tradition, both the deck and the book represent significant works.

Robert M. Place is an internationally recognized visionary artist whose paintings, sculptures, and jewelry have been shown in galleries and museums across America, Europe, and Japan. He has designed, illustrated, and authored numerous tarot decks, including the Alchemical Tarot, the Tarot of the Saints, the Buddha Tarot, and the Vampire Tarot. His writing on tarot history has been described by Booklist as potentially the best book ever written on the subject. A facsimile of his Historic Italian Tarot is held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and his work has been featured on the BBC, A&E, the Discovery Channel, and the Learning Channel.
