That curiosity eventually led him to serious occult study, which began in the late 1990s after he encountered a secretive coven of witches who allowed him to document and publish the first written account of their magical tradition. His formal education in anthropology has given his spiritual research an unusual grounding, helping him balance esoteric inquiry with methodological rigor.

Over the years McHenry has studied a wide range of religious traditions, including Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, and the Greek Pantheon, and was even ordained as a deacon in the Baptist Church.
